2026 Emcee
JON C. KREITZ
REAR ADMIRAL, U.S. NAVY (RETIRED)

Rear Adm. Jon Kreitz enlisted in the U.S. Navy in May 1982 as a Machinistโ€™s Mate, serving on the USS Nassau (LHA 4). He was later commissioned as a Surface Warfare Officer through the Navy ROTC program after graduating from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

He went on to serve at sea on the USS Bunker Hill (CG 52), USS Mitscher (DDG 57), and USS Enterprise (CVN 65), prior to commanding the USS Stephen W. Groves (FFG 29) and USS New York (LPD 21).

Ashore, he served at Headquarters, Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Command, along with three tours on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV). He also served in the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) and on the Secretary of the Navy staff.

His first flag officer tour was as the 66th President of the Navyโ€™s Board of Inspection and Survey. His final assignment was as the Deputy Director for Operations of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, where he led record increases in the return of Americans missing from past conflicts. He retired in December 2019 after over 37 years of service.

He has served on and led several military support, Veteranโ€™s advocacy, and equine-related non-profit boards since his retirement from the Navy. A life-long equestrian, he holds national and international dressage officiating licenses. He was recently inducted as an honorary member of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) for his support for the Armyโ€™s Caisson Platoon program.

Both Jon and his wife come from law enforcement families. Jon also served as a Deputy Sheriff I (Extra Help) with the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner Department (OCSD) in California for over ten years while he was in the Navy.

With a strong appreciation for all that our First Responders do for our community, Jon is deeply honored and excited to be a part of this yearโ€™s Fauquier Chamber Valor Awards.
